“Rana works primarily with untreated California woods, especially redwoods. Her process spans the physically dangerous to the meticulously delicate — moving from chainsaws and grinders to interventions with silk threads, thorns harvested from her backyard, and hand tools.”

How the work gets made

“Rana’s work requires proficiency with power tools, technical gear and equipment, and intense upper body strength. While her final forms evoke beauty and often have delicate features, the underlying danger of these processes is intrinsic to her work.”
